This residential green infrastructure project in Newark, Delaware transformed a conventional lawn into a thriving native landscape. A rain garden, installed at 24 inches deep, was designed to capture and infiltrate stormwater runoff from the home's roof and driveway area. Overflow from the rain garden is directed to adjacent grass and driveway areas, significantly reducing runoff volume entering local waterways within the White Clay Creek watershed.

Surrounding conservation landscape beds were planted with a diverse palette of native species to enhance wildlife habitat, support pollinators, and provide natural beauty throughout the seasons. The project demonstrates how residential properties can meaningfully contribute to watershed health through the adoption of low-maintenance, ecologically beneficial landscapes in place of traditional turfgrass.
