Public Rain Garden at white clay creek Preserve, Pennsylvania

Location:  Landenberg, Pennsylvania (London Britain Township)

Installed:  April 2026

Partners:  White Clay Watershed Association, PA DCNR.

Funding Support:  Constellation, PA DCNR

At the White Clay Creek Preserve Office, WCWA partnered with the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) to convert an area of lawn beside the building into a functioning rain garden. After regrading the base and bringing in 18 cubic yards of screened topsoil to improve drainage, WCWA staff and 18 community volunteers planted more than 1,000 native plants spanning over 12 species, including swamp milkweed, blue flag iris, cardinal flower, tussock sedge, and golden groundsel. The gutters from the office roof were redirected to the rain garden where the water can now spread out and soak in. A protective fence was installed around the new planting to keep visitors and deer out while the garden establishes.
