The Goodwin Preserve tree planting took place flawlessly on March 20, 2010. Due to the wonderful organizing efforts and perfect weather conditions, 160 volunteers planted 2,450 various types of native trees over 6 acres in under 3 hours! The volunteer efforts made for a greener community and will help restore a portion of the Middle Branch of the White Clay Creek. The goal was to plant the trees within 100 feet of either side of the creek to help stabilize the banks, absorb nitrates and other harmful chemicals from entering the creek, and provide wildlife habitat.
It was great to have so many volunteers from Franklin Township as well as other townships in the area. Reforestation efforts like this one will positively impact the entire watershed, not just The township residents. Thank you to all the volunteers and particularly Paul Overton of the Franklin Township Board of Supervisors and Bill and Beth Skalish who together headed up the project.
