The Pomeroy Railroad and Wildflower Walk

Saturday, March 27th, 1 pm

Join us as we search for spring wildflowers and walk some of the old P&N Railroad bed and learn the history of what is affectionately called "The Pumpsie Doodle."  Meet at the WCCSP Nature Center and hike upstream. Park entrance fee in effect. PA residents can meet in PA and hike down to the nature center. Recommended for adults and young adults.

Creek Geology Family Hike

Saturday, April 24th, 1 pm

Search for large rock outcrops in this scenic hike along the white clay creek as we learn to identify the rocks and minerals found in this area of the park.  Meet at the WCCSP Nature Center and hike downstream. Park entrance fee in effect. PA residents can meet in PA and hike down to the nature center. Open to all ages.

 

White Clay Creek Fest!

Celebrate the White Clay during the second annual Creek Fest at Carpenter Recreation Area. We will have displays, music, activities for all ages, crafts, and food for this exciting event! Park entrance fee in effect. Open to all ages.

Starting at the Headwaters: Exploring the Science of White Clay Creek at the Stroud Water Research Center

Tour the Stroud Water Research Center, located in the headwaters of the East Branch of the White Clay Creek.  See where stream water is brought into the lab and explore the surrounding creek to learn how research on the White Clay Creek can help us understand streams around the world.  Meet at Stroud Water Research Center, 970 Spencer Road, Avondale, PA, see www.stroudcenter.org for directions. Historic Buildings in the Preserve

Take a stroll into the past in this intriguing history program.  Meet at the PA Preserve Nature Center (Baptist Meeting House, Sharpless and London Tract Road, east of Rt. 896).  Recommended for Adults and young adults.

 

Creekin' for Critters!

This exciting program will take place along the White Clay!  Equipped with dip nets and buckets, we will search the creek side for living critters big and small!  Meet at the WCCSP Nature Center and hike downstream. North Creek Nursery Tour

North Creek Nurseries, Landenberg, PA invites White Clay Creek Watershed members and residents to tour their wholesale nursery on August 7, 2010 from 9-11 am.  For the past 21 years, North Creek has been propagating perennials, ornamental grasses, ferns and vines with emphasis on species native to the Eastern US. As stewards of the land, this progressive nursery is dedicated to protecting and preserving the beauty of the White Clay Creek Watershed.  Join us for an educational mroning and learn how this local nursery became a Certified Wildlife Habitat and uses native plants for aesthetic and functional values.  Among the highlights at North Creek are pollinator gardens, meadows, vegetable gardens, trial gardens, a constructed wetland, vegetated ponds, and a variety of best management practices for controlling stormwater runoff. Hale Byrnes House History

Seized in September. The Story of Delawareans caught in the middle of the Philadelphia Campaign of 1777. Did you know that many Delawareans fled the state as refugees? That the President of Delaware was taken prisoner by the British? That houses were raided and cattle stolen? That Wilmington was captured by the British? That during the Winter of Valley Forge an auxiliary American encampment was located in Wilmington? Come and learn more about these and other documented adventures of Delaware residents and their role in the American Revolution.  The importance of the White Clay Creek and Delaware's waterways in the Revolution will be discussed.  Meet at the Hale Byrnes House, 606 Stanton-Christiana Road, Newark, DE 19713, see www.halebyrnes.org for directions.  Recommended for adults and young adults.
